Dr. Saylor Publishes His Second WWII Book

Long Hard RoadAssociate professor of History, Dr. Thomas Saylor is scheduled to release his new book, “Long Road Home: American POWs in World War II” this month.

Published by Minnesota Historical Press, the book is based on more than 100 interviews with World War II veterans held as prisoners of war by the Germans or Japanese between 1941 and 1945. This past summer, Saylor was one of four authors to speak on their books as part of the dedication celebration for the Minnesota World War II Veterans Memorial at the Minnesota State Capitol. Saylor previewed his new book and also spoke on his first book, “Remembering the Good War,”published in 2005. Saylor’s first book draws on more than 130 individual oral histories he collected to chronicle the experiences of World War II-era men and women - civilians and service members alike.
