Volleyball Seniors to Earn Top Honors

As the four seniors on this year’s Golden Bears Volleyball team complete their careers, they leave knowing they have made their mark in the Concordia record books.

They guided the Bears to four straight NSIC regular-season titles, three NSIC tournament titles and two trips to the NCAA Elite Eight, and helped the team rack up an overall record over four years of 130-15 and 51-1 in the NSIC.

More importantly, they also stayed focused on their academic goals. All four seniors are three-time NSIC all-Academic winners. All four were awarded CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors while Kyro, Olson and Lucia also earned Academic All-American recognition.

Kelsey Kyro | Communication Studies | 3.7 GPA
Minneapolis, MN
• Two-time AVCA all-American (first team 2006, third team 2005)
• Two-time first team Daktronics all-region
• Finished fifth all-time in kills with 1,281 kills

Jessica Lucia | Elementary Education, K-8 Mathematics | 3.8 GPA
Plymouth, MN
• First player to be a two-time AVCA first team all-America (2005, 2006)
• First player in school history with 1,500 kills/1,500 digs, second all-time in kills (1,647) and fourth all-time in digs (1,542), with top two seasons in school history in kills (639 in 2006, 612 in 2005)
• Two-time NSIC and Regional Player of the Year and first team all-NSIC

Megan Graham | Elementary Education | 3.8 GPA
Dayton, MN
• School-record 2,224 digs finishing sixth all-time in NCAA history in digs (only 16 players in NCAA history have 2,000 career digs)
• Two-time NSIC Libero of the Year
• Three-time first-team all-NSIC

Ashley Olson | Secondary Education Mathematics | 4.0 GPA
Circle Pines, MN
• Finished third all-time in digs with 1,591 and 10th in kills with 684
• CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic all-American second team in 2006
• Concordia all-time leader in games played with 506 during her four-year career
