1990s Class Notes

Leann Sallstrom (`91) spent the last four years with Wells Fargo Bank, Leann Sallstrommost recently serving as president of Wells Fargo Bank in New Ulm, Minn. She joined Thrivent Financial as a financial associate in November 2006.

Sandra Zempel (’91) gave a presentation on Alzheimer’s Dementia and Downs Syndrome at “Aging and Disabilities Odyssey,” the 2006 National State Units on Aging Conference on Oct. 5, 2006. Zempel received her B.A. in Social Science in 1991and is currently a program manager, QMRP (Qualified Mental Retardation Professional) with Mains’l Services, Inc.

Brian Lee Helleland (’94) has been named vice president of Operations at St. Jude Medical Center in Orange County,Calif.

Lori Peterson (’94) and Lawrence Gangle III were united in marriage on June 24, 2006. The ceremony was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, N.D.,where the couple now resides. Lori is working as the reading specialist at Nathan Twining Elementary
and Middle School.

Dr. Amy Marga (’95) recently joined the faculty of Luther Seminary, serving as assistant professor of Systematic Theology. After receiving her B.A. at Concordia, she went on to earn her M.Div. (’98) and Ph.D. (’06) from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton,N.J. She has worked at the German-American Institute in Tübingen,Germany, as an English instructor and coach, and at Princeton Theological Seminary as a teaching assistant. She is the translator of the forthcoming edition of Karl Barth’s “The Word of God and the Word of Man” and was an
editorial assistant for Lutheran Quarterly.

Scott Strohkirch (’95) is attending Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind.,with an intended graduation in 2010.

Tom Edelen (`96) is serving as a Lutheran Community Services Specialist with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, working primarily with the new “Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity” program supporting Habitat building sites in Southern California and Hawaii. He lives in North Hollywood,Calif.

Pete Obermueller (’98) is working in the Washington, D.C., office of Congresswoman Barbara Cubin of Wyoming where he serves as a legislative assistant working on foreign policy and other public policy issues.

Barb Bornhoft (’99) recently received the coveted Athena Award, sponsored by the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce and Jensen Motors. The award is bestowed annually to women who have demonstrated excellence, superior skills, creativity and high potential in their field of business, as well as having helped and inspired others in reaching their full potential. Bornhoft is vice president of New Ulm Telecom, Inc., a telecommunications carrier and Internet data provider in New Ulm, Redwood Falls, and Springfield,Minn.; and Aurelia, Iowa.
