1980s Class Notes
Sharon (Reske ‘80) Hinck recently released her second novel, “Renovating
Becky Miller.” In this
follow-up to her first novel, “The Secret Life of Becky Miller,” Becky takes on the renovation of a run-down farmhouse, but when her mother-in-law moves in, her best friend is acting weird and her marriage is in need of some major remodeling of its own, Becky escapes to her cinematic
daydreams. Can she stop fixing everyone else and let God renovate her heart so she can find her own happy ending?
Donna (Isaacson ‘80) Oesterreich received the Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award at the Southern District teacher’s conference held in Orange Beach, Ala., in November 2006.
Pamela Haltom (’85) married David Draayer on Sept. 2, 2006, in Rochester, Minn. CSP alumni in attendance included Christine (Wallman ‘85) Dano, Nancy (Froehner ‘84) Bernath, Kara (Alspaugh ‘85) Dannenbring, and Terry (’81) and Ruth (Perkins ‘80) Schmeckpeper.
Rev. John P. Reinke (’85) recently was selected to serve as director of the
Deaf Institute of Theology (DIT) for Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Reinke has been serving since 2000 as a missionary-at-large to the deaf in the South Wisconsin District of the
Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He also served as a missionary-at-large to the deaf in the Nebraska District and a missionary to the deaf in Ghana, West Africa. He continues to travel to Ghana and India to teach the DITcurriculum to deaf leaders. Reinke and his wife, Dacia (Jording ‘82), have two sons, Joshua and Joseph.
Linda (Sommers ‘86) Donnay was nominated by a former student for Who’s Who Among American Teachers,which was published in September 2005. She was nominated by another student for September 2006.
Tim Heupel (’74), Keith Grimm (’87), and Ryan Brons (’01) all continue to serve at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Omaha,Neb. Tim is the pastor of Care and Outreach, Keith is the senior pastor, and Ryan serves as vicar. They are enjoying this unique experience of having an entire pastoral staff of CSP graduates.
Jim Halsted (`89) was selected to receive the 2007 Lutheran Education Association Master Director of Christian Outreach (DCO) award. He is a DCO at Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior in Green Valley, Ariz., focusing on mission development and training, outreach programming, small groups, children’s ministries, and community event and outreach programming.
Renee Koch (’89) has served as Trauma 1 Hospital Chaplain at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence for several years. She misses her alumni friends from 1986-90 and sends greetings to alumni and professors.
