1970s Class Notes

Russ Sommerfeld (’72) has been re-elected to his second term as Nebraska District LCMS President

Tim Heupel (’74), Keith Grimm (’87), and Ryan Brons (’01) all continue to serve at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Omaha,Neb. Tim is the pastor of Care and Outreach,Keith is the senior pastor, and Ryan serves as vicar. They are enjoying this unique experience of having an entire pastoral staff of CSP graduates.

Rev. John S.Hillmer (’74), pastor at Grace Lutheran Church at Carrollwood in Tampa, Fla., participated in the 2006 National Clergy Renewal Program through a $31,200 grant to his church from the Lilly Endowment Inc.The program allows pastors to step back from their busy lives and renew their spirits for the benefit of their ongoing ministries.

Kathleen (Schroeder ‘74) Smith received her Special Education Endorsements in Learning Disabilities/Emotional Impairments in December 2006 at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., where she also earned her M.A. in Elementary Education in December 2003. She currently teaches 3rd and 4th grade Special Education (inclusion) at Timberland Charter Academy in Muskegon, Mich.

Tony Steinbronn (’77) had his book, “Worldviews: A Christian Response to Religious Pluralism,” published in January 2007 by Concordia Publishing House.
