Hall of Fame Acclaim

Concordia University inducted its 2006 class of honorees for the Athletic Hall of Fame as part of this year’s Homecoming festivities. The award is given biennially to pay tribute to alumni, coaches and others who have made exceptional contributions to the university’s athletic programs. Meet the honorees for 2006:

Tracy (Andersen ‘87)
Olson Among this letter winner’s many athletic accomplishments, Tracy was team MVP, NLCAASecond Team All-American and All-Conference in volleyball. In basketball, she earned all-District and all-conference honors. Olson is now a secondary math teacher and volleyball and basketball coach at St. Paul Central High School.

Richard Danowsky, Acad. ‘60
Afour-year letter winner in football, basketball and baseball,Richard was a two-time all-conference selection, team MVP and team captain as a senior in all three sports. He led the conference in scoring in basketball his junior and senior seasons, and had try-out offers from several professional sports teams. He is retired as owner and principle partner of Alpha Group, an insurance and investments firm.

Rev. Maurice Goldhammer, Acad. ‘57, JC ‘59
Maurice lettered two years in basketball at Concordia. He is pastor for Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Colo., and has held positions on the Board of Directors at Denver Lutheran High School, the Southwest Denver Community Justice Commission, and multiple Circuit Counselor positions.

Mary Langholz ‘74
Mary Langholz lettered four times in women’s basketball and was the team MVP for three seasons. She was a stand-out basketball player and leader at Concordia in the early era of women’s basketball and before comprehensive record keeping at CSP.

Heather (Miller) Whitcomb ‘95
A four-year letter winner in volleyball and softball, Heather was an academic all-American, all-conference honorable mention and all-conference selection in volleyball. She was a two-season academic all-American and team MVP in softball and was named Concordia Female Athlete of the Year in 1995. She now works in the home caring for her three children, Aidan (5), Ava (3), and Easton (1).

Joel Schuessler ‘82
A four-year letter winner in soccer and baseball, Joel earned all-conference honors in baseball and was Concordia’s 1982 Male Athlete of the Year. In soccer, he was twice named All-Conference, was an All-American selection and a member of the 1980 Little College National Championship team. He is assistant professor and chair of Concordia’s Information Technology Management program.

Kyle Timmer ‘94
With 1,295 point scored while in a CSP uniform, Kyle is currently sixth all-time in scoring in basketball, averaging more than 13 ppg from his sophomore to senior years. Amember of the 1993-94 men’s basketball team that went 20-9 (the only CSP team to ever have 20 wins in a season) he was team MVP and all-conference as a junior and senior.

Marlin Zobel,Acad. ‘48, JC ‘50
Aaseball and basketball stand-out at CSP, Marlin averaged 20 ppg in basketball and hit over .300 in baseball. He went on to be a three sport athlete at Concordia-Seward,where he earned Nebraska All-College honors in his senior year in football and basketball. Turning down a minor league baseball contract, he went on to teach in Lutheran schools. Marlin now works in semi-retirement with Lutheran Heritage Foundation and the Martin Luther Education Foundation Ministry.
