Christus Chorus Joins Five-Choir Tribute to Choral Luminary

Concordia University’s Christus Chorus was among an elite group of Lutheran college choirs joining together this fall to celebrate the 135th birth anniversary of famed Minnesota choral director F.Melius Christiansen, who is considered the father of American a cappella choral singing.

Held Nov.19, 2006, at Orchestra Hall, the event brought together for the first time in their distinguished histories the touring choirs and conductors of five highly regarded Lutheran college choirs, including Augsburg College, Concordia College-Moorhead, Gustavus Adolphus College, St.Olaf College, and Concordia University, St.Paul.

F.Melius Christiansen [1871-1955] founded and directed the St.Olaf College Choir from 1911 to 1941, and is credited with setting the standard for a capella voice performance. Recordings are available for purchase in CD and DVD formats.
